At The Ferry we are enthusiastic supporters of live music and through the season offer the bar as a venue for young traditional musicians to showcase their skills. So this year has been hard for us. We haven't lifted the roof yet and won't be doing so for some time yet!
In every other year, the Orkney Folk Festival at the end of May, and Blues Festival in September are obvious highlights, but this year it will be very low level background music at least initially as we work to adhere to the current guidelines for operating pubs and restaurants in Scotland. Soon enough we will again provide a venue for young (and not so young) bands to strut their stuff and support traditional music sessions which set the pub off to its best.
For now, we are focused on relaxed chat but as things return to normal visiting players will again be welcomed and there will always be a guitar, fiddle or mandolin (and even a bhodran on request!) for those away from home but prepared to pick up an instrument and join in – or start off – a session.
